Audie Tate Grigsby was born Friday, March 13, 1908, and died Sunday, January 27, 2008. She was born in Anderson, AR, to Martha Roberts Tate and Hiram Tate. Audie grew up on a farm and began working at a very early age due to the loss of her father's vision. She began sewing on a treadle machine while so small she had to stand to treadle. Hard work was no stranger to Audie. She met her future husband, Charley Grigsby, in 1924, and they were married October 2, 1926. They were proud, loving parents of five daughters - Helen Richardson of Tacoma, WA; Jean Thompson (d: 1991); Charelene G. Parks of Fuquay Varina, NC; Nina G. Miller of Wenatchee, WA; and Ina R. (Ernie) Stewart of Camas, WA. Audie and Charley celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on October 2, 1976.
Audie retired from the Valley Evaporator and was a homemaker as well. She loved gardening and sewing, cooking and fishing, and spending time with her grandchildren, of which she had 14. Audie also had 19 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter; three grandsons; four sons-in-law; two sisters; and three brothers. Audie is survived by one brother, Homer Tate, and one sister, Avis Sims, both of Wenatchee; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2008, in the Jones & Jones~Betts Memorial Chapel. Viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 31, at the chapel. Audie was a member of Calvary Bible Church of Wenatchee and, if desired, memorials may be made to the church in her name.
