Hometown care and consideration

Carlotta Ada Holland
Wenatchee, Washington
November 30, 2007

Carlotta Ada Holland, 92, a 77 year resident of North Central Washington, joined friends and family on Heaven's shore in the early morning hours of November 30, 2007. Born in Brewer, ME on April 22, 1915, to Frederick and Anna (Schwotzer) Sinclair, she was the third of eight children. Moving to Wenatchee in 1930, at the age of 15, she went on to marry Charles E. Holland on September 24, 1933. She was a loving wife and companion in their many adventrues until his death in 1972. Like most people who lived through the Great Depression, Carlotta was no stranger to hard work. She picked fruit, owned an orchard for a short time with her husband, bought and sold numerous homes, did housecleaning in the Valley for many years and even ran a restaurant at Fancher Airport for a brief period in the mid to late 50's. She was an excellent seamstress, making many of her own outfits and enjoyed a 17-year career in that field at Central Washington Hospital before retiring in 1983.

Carlotta loved her Mom and "Papa", as she fondly referred to him. She dearly loved her siblings and, as marriages and families developed, became a favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews. Her only real regret was that she was unable to have children of her own. She truly loved the Lord and did her best to live out her faith. Carlotta had a true spirit of generosity and gave to many worthwhile causes. She made many long-time friends in the area and enjoyed a caring church family at First Baptist. Carlotta also loved to hunt, fish, garden, knit and crochet. She developed a real talent as an artist and the walls of her home displayed many beautiful pictures she had completed over the years. One of her greatest achievements, according to Carlotta, was to learn how to drive after her husband passed away. Her favorite vacation was the trip she took to Hawaii and she enjoyed sharing the many pictures in her extensive photo collection. Also, she loved her early morning walks in earlier years. Her fondest memory was growing up on the farm in Lebanon, ME. Carlotta's favorite passage of scripture was Psalm 23, which provided much needed comfort to her as death drew near. She survived two bouts of colon cancer, overcame numerous obstacles in her life, and because of her hard work and good investments, was able to pay off her home after her husband's passing and fund 100% of her assisted living care. Those of us who knew and loved her will treasure the memories of her unique sense of humor and her stubborn tenacity and determination. Her 'Maine' accent and the curious pronunciation of certain words will continue to make us chuckle and smile.

Carlotta is survived by a sister, Phyllis Crane of Edmonds, WA; and, as she would often say with a smile, by her "little baby brother," Richard L. (Jeanette) Sinclair of Rock Island. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Linda (Clint) Benson; and a great-granddaughter, Cali Benson of Lake Tahoe, NV from Charles' first marriage; many nieces and nephews from both sides of the family; and an extensive 'pig' collection of many years. Sisters Eleanor Fulwiler, Freda Harvey and Mary Russert; brothers Carl and Fred Sinclair preceded her in death.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Riverwest Assisted Living and the Hopice team of Central Washington Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at the Wenatchee First Baptist Church this Friday, December 7, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. A private family service for the internment of her ashes will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Military Chaplain Bible Fund at 1-800-524-1588 or online at: IBSDirectService@usa.ibs.org and note that you wish to make an MCBF contribution.
