Charles E. Quehrn, age 84, passed away Saturday morning, November 24, 2007, at home with his loving wife of 60 years at his side. Born June 15, 1923, in Cashmere, WA, the third child of Henry F. and Jane M. Quehrn. He attended school in Cashmere, graduating from Cashmere High School in the class of 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in April of 1943, assigned to the 155th Engineer Combat Battalion and served in the South Pacific and Japan. Sergeant Quehrn was honorably discharged and received numerous awards and citations including the Asiatic Pacific Service Star and the American Theater Service Metal. He was a long time member of the VFW and American Legion. Charlie returned to Cashmere in February of 1946 and married Alma Neel on September 4, 1947. He was employed at WP Fuller Paint Store from 1948 through 1974. From 1974 until retirement in 1988, he worked for Wenatchee Paint and Glass. Charlie fought a long and courageous battle with lung cancer, diagnosed in February of 1997. His family and friends will remember him for his strength and enjoyment of life. He was a skillful fisherman, artist and carpenter, and particularly enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his children and grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and in-laws; brothers, Henry F. Quehrn, Jr., William A. Quehrn; and sister, Betty Lou Brown. Charlie is survived by his wife, Alma Quehrn of Wenatchee; daughter, Ann Q. Bertomeu of Lake Stevens, WA; sons, Charles Neel of Houston, TX, and Gordon E. Quehrn and wife, Mary, of Arlington, WA; sisters-in-law, Jennye Quehrn and Akiko Quehrn; grandchildren, Bryan Bertomeu (Heather), Heidi Quehrn Harris (Scott), Michael Bertomeu (Cherry), Christopher Bertomeu (Cindy) and Sara Quehrn; and great-grandsons, Dallas, Marshall, Cameron, Caleb, Max, Alex and Austin.
Graveside services will be held at the Cashmere Cemetery at 12:15 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2007. Memorial services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 222 Cottage Avenue, Cashmere with a reception to follow.
