Dorothy Lucile Murphy of Wenatchee peacefully entered into God's care on January 31, 2008. She was born to Minnie Susan and Ova Barton Rash on August 30, 1916, at Powersville, MO. Dorothy's early years were spent on the family farm until she moved to Unionville, MO, where she completed her schooling. Dorothy moved to Washington, IA, in 1936 to work in the American Pease Button factory. It was there that she met the love of her life, Fay A. Murphy. The couple was married on May 15, 1937. Their union resulted in the birth of two sons, John L. Murphy in 1938, and Jerry W. Murphy in 1940. The family made their home in Washington, IA, until 1941 when they moved to Davenport, IA, where Fay worked in the war effort. The family moved to Wenatchee in 1947. Dorothy began her career in the fruit business and became a floor lady for Cascadian Fruit Shippers until retiring in 1978.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary in the Fraternal Order of Eagles. During her years in the Auxiliary, Dorothy won many awards for charitable work and was very proud of being selected 'Mrs. Eagle' in 1981-82, 'Eagle Mother' in 1984-85, and 'Auxiliary Grandmother' in 1989-90. She was a devoted wife and mother who lived for her family. Dorothy especially enjoyed cooking for her family.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Fay Murphy; mother and father; and numerous brothers and sisters. Dorothy is survived by her children, John L. Murphy and his wife, Carolyn, and Jerry W. Murphy and his wife, Jeri; eight grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at the Jones & Jones~Betts chapel. Viewing will be from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 4, at the funeral home.
