Elaine Lucy Reed

Elaine Lucy Reed passed away September 15, 2007 at the Colonial Vista Care Center.  She was 92.  Elaine was born to Harvey and Myrtle Ross in Cando, ND, March 1, 1915.  After graduating from high school there, she met and married Harold Reed on September 17, 1933.  The couple moved with their family of four children to Kalispell, MT, for a couple of years and then on out to Wenatchee in April of 1946 where Harold got a job with Morris Hardware.  Elaine was a homemaker, enjoyed working in her flowers and garden, and loved to read in her spare time.  She has been a life-long member of the First Methodist Church.  Elaine taught ladies’ circles.  While her children were going through high school and college, she worked packing apples, at the Kress soda fountain, took census and was employed at the Mode O’Day dress shop for several years.  She joined the Juanita Rebekah Lodge when she was 18 in Cando and transferred to the Tempest Rebekah Lodge in Wenatchee.  Elaine was a member for 74 years, belonging to several branches of the Lodge.  In retirement years, she and Harold loved to take their camper and boat to Potholes State Park for fishing.

She is survived by her sons Elden (Marion) Reed of Shelton, WA and Harvey (Donna) Reed of Belfair, WA; daughters Cheryl (LeRoy) Dial of East Wenatchee and Lois (Ralph) Clark of Malaga.  Elaine has nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  Elaine was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years in April, 1994; her parents; her three sisters; and two grandsons.

Graveside Services will be at the Wenatchee Cemetery on Thursday, September 20, 2007, at 1:00 p.m.  There will be a viewing at Betts Funeral Service from 9:00 to 12:00, Thursday morning.  A reception will follow at the IOOF Hall, 610 N. Chelan, lower level, following the service.
