Esther H. Goehner

Esther H. Goehner entered into her eternal home on Sunday, February 25, 2007, at the age of 93.  She was born on June 14, 1913, to John and Mathilda Brost in Kulm, ND.  On July 12, 1936, she was married to John Goehner in the country church she attended as a child.  Esther was a homemaker and apple packer in Central Washington for over thirty years after moving west with her husband from North Dakota in 1938.  It was in this beautiful valley that they raised their three children.  She and her husband, John, moved to Santa Barbara, CA in 1970 where she worked as a domestic worker and house cleaner until the early 1990’s.  Esther moved to Saratoga, CA in 1999 where she lived until her death.  She was a member of The Gideon International Women’s Auxiliary and she and John loved to distribute Bibles to students, nurses and hotels.  She was an active church woman and key volunteer in two churches:  Dryden Community Church and Trinity Baptist Church of Santa Barbara.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, John; her mother and father; her sister, Rose Merkel; and brothers Theophil and Elroy, as well as two son-in-laws, Larry Dame and Bill Maggs; and daughter-in-law, Bev Goehner.  Esther is survived by three children, Don of San Jose, CA, Elvera Dame of Wakefield, RI and Eldora of Yorba Linda, CA; as well as seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2007, at the Dryden Community Church beginning at 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, memborial gifts may be made to The Gideon International, 50 Century Blvd., Nashville, TN   37214 and designated as Bibles in memory of Esther Goehner.
