Gerry passed away on December 18, 2007, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Bend, OR, on August 24, 1934, and raised in Libby, MT, by George and Dorothy Wood. Gerry graduated from Libby High School in 1952 and immeiately joined the Navy at the age of 17. He went on what was called a "Kiddie Cruise" in the Korean War. Gerry was a member of a Blimp Squadron stationed at Elizabeth City, NC, as a radar tech. While in the Navy, he was in a boxing program and was 5th Naval District Middle Weight Champion. Honorably discharged in 1955, Gerry worked at the Libby sawmill until moving to Spokane in 1956.
While working at Jensen-Byrd Hardware in Spokane, he met his future wife, Pat. Gerry also worked for the railroad and, in September of 1957, he and Pat were married. They soon moved to the Grand Coulee area and began their family. Gerry was employed in the construction industry, working on Priest Rapids, Wanapum, Wells and Boundary Dams as an inspector and junior engineer. The family moved to Wenatchee in 1968 and Gerry worked for Columbia Concrete before going back into construction as a carpenter. Gerry retired from Hale & Long Construction in 1995 as a foreman. He loved fishing and camping with his wife and friends and Nascar #24. Gerry could grow a terrific garden, as well. He was a member of American Legion Post #10, 40 et 8 Voiture 90 of Wenatchee, and Eagles Lodge Aerie 2577 of Grand Coulee.
Gerry was preceded in death by his yougest son, Garry; his parents and his nephew, Kevin. He is survived by his wife, Pat, at the home; son, Michael, of Wenatchee; daughters, Jo (Tom McDonald) and Lori, all of Malaga; four brothers, Buce (Penny) of Elliston, MT, George (Glenda) of Libby, MT, Keith (Nancy) of Helena, MT, and Phillip (Mary) of Austin, TX; three nieces; four nephews; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on January 2, 2008, at the American Legion in Wenatchee at 1:00 p.m. Private family interment was held at an earlier date.
