Josephine Veronica Hess

Josephine Veronica Hess passed away Sunday, March 16, 2008. She was born March 17, 1919, to Joseph and Pauline (Beley) Bunzalik in Manhattan, NY. Josephine was raised in New York City and attended Catholic schools. After graduating, she met and married George Hess. They moved from New York to Wenatchee with their son. Their second child, a daughter, was born in Wenatchee. After a few years, the family moved back to New York where another daughter was born before moving to Uncasville, CT. The family remained in Uncasville until 1947 before moving again to Wenatchee. Josephine went to work for J.C. Penney and also gave birth to her fourth child, a son, in 1957. The family moved to Las Vegas, NV; Eugene, OR; and Tacoma, WA with Josephine continuing to work for Penney's. Finally, they moved back to Wenatchee and built a home. Josephine enjoyed going to the Senior Center, and loved to dance.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1995, and a grandson in December 2004. Josephine is survived by her children George "Tom" (Iory) Hess of Port Orchard, WA; June (Stu) Berdine of Wenatchee; Ida (Don) Clark of Auburn, WA; and Ray (Darlene) Hess of Everett, WA. She also leaves eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a niece, Betty Hahn, of Federal Way, WA.

There will be a viewing at Jones & Jones~Betts Funeral Home on Monday, March 24, 2008, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
