Lamar Dale Steele of Wenatchee passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 26, 2008. Lamar was born May 19, 1915, to Orville A. and Marian (Kaufman) Steele in Towner County, North Dakota. He married Marjorie Norris in April 1942. Their son, Jay D. Steele, was born in June 1948. Marjorie passed away in 1968 and Jay passed away in May 2007. Lamar married Edna Alice Rossman in October 1969. They resided in Spokane until retiring to Wenatchee in 1982. Edna passed away in December 2001.
Lamar served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II. He and Marjorie settled in Wenatchee after the war before moving to Spokane where he was a route delivery driver for Carnation Milk Company for many years. Lamar was a great handyman who could fix anything. He loved helping his neighbors and family. The neighborhood will probably "fall apart" without him. Lamar will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Sandy Adams Steele of Palm Beach, FL; his grandson, Luke Steele of Portland, OR; his sister, Lois E. Shier of Wenatchee; nieces, Gerry Ann Steele and Rae-Ann Beaulieu of Missoula, MT; nephew, Clint Hultberg of Dillon, MT; and his "kissing" cousins, Roseilia Mallatt and Ann Steele of Wenatchee. In addition to his beloved wives and son, Lamar was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Lloyd "Bud" and Gerald "Jerry" Steele.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful nurses and caregivers from Hospice of Central Washington and HomeCare of Washington for the kind and loving attention during Lamar's final days.
In following Lamar's wishes, no services will be held. Interment will be in Spokane. The family suggests that memorials be made to the donor's charity of choice.
