Lawrence R. Bennett, a longtime resident of Wenatchee, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2008. He was born in Miller, SD, August 23, 1925, and later moved to Wenatchee. He graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1943, then entered the Army on March 4, 1944 serving in the European Theater during World War II before receiving an honorable discharge on March 26, 1946. Lawrence married Eleanor Heisig on May 31, 1952.
He operated a tile business for many years before joining J.N. Vail Roofing and retiring after 25 years. Lawrence enjoyed salmon fishing, camping, his horse and his garden in Quincy. He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Othello, WA, past member of F.O.E. #204, Washington State Horsemen and Appleatchee Riders for 26 years.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Eleanor; daughters, Sandy Bennett of Quincy, Sharon Chalk of Buckley, WA, and Patty (Todd) Billings of Malaga, WA; sons, Robert and Larry Bennett of Wenatchee, and David (Alison) Bennett of Waterville, WA; grandchildren, Amber and Jennifer Bennett of Quincy, James and Rober Chalk of Buckley, WA, Ryan and Gracie Bennett of Waterville, and Brianne and Taylor Billings of Malaga; sister, Mary (Hugh) Newberry of Cashmere; brothers, Carl Bennett of Wenatchee and Chuck (Ruth) Bennett of East Wenatchee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha and Charles Bennett; sisters, Fern, Doris and Margaret; and brother, Clarence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 21, 2008, at the Jones & Jones~Betts Memorial Chapel. If desired, memorials may be made to any Cancer Society or to the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society in Lawrence's name. Viewing will be from 2 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at the funeral home. Concluding services and interment will follow in the Wenatchee City Cemetery.
