Wenatchee is a "fantastic" place because of Max Van Hoven and if you knew him (who didn't...right?!) he always greeted with a smile and a firm grip. He will be remembered for his generosity, positive outlook - no matter the circumstances - and his never-ending love for his family. Max went home to forever be with his Lord and Savior on November 10, 2007 after suffering a severe heart attack. Having a relationship with Jesus Christ is the greatest need the human heart can ever know and Max began his relationship with The Lord at the age of 17. His oldest sister, Gladys, shared with him God's love and amazing grace, which led to his perfect salvation that Christmas Eve. We, his family, take great comfort in knowing that it is now truly well with his soul. Max was born in Fairplay, MO, on August 2, 1919, to George and Mary "Millie" Van Hoven and was the youngest of six children. He proudly served his country for four years in the Army/Air Force during the Second World War. Max married Ethel Davies in 1942. After the war, he came back to Wenatchee in 1945 and worked as a department manager for SEARS before retiring in 1985. At SEARS he was known for his expertise and constant cheerful whistling. Max married Sharon on February 14, 1981 to begin a wonderful 27-year journey together. Max had an astounding appreciation for life, which anyone could clearly see. His fullest moments were definitely spent surrounded by family and he always had a special place in his heart for his dog, Heidi - they were just like peas and carrots.
Max is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, Rod (Bonnie) Van Hoven, Bob (Nancy) Van Hoven; daughter, Barbara Head; sons Jason (Angie) Monroe, Jeff (Echo) Monroe; seven grandchildren, Kimberly (Troy) Toftness, Kiersten (Jason) Noyes, Kelly, Emily, Brenna, Emily and Ainsley; and great-grandson, Brock; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers and sisters, Gladys, Carl, Blythe, Irene and Paul; and great-granddaughter, Skylar Rae.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 15, 2007, at Bethel Baptist Church, 1354 Eastmont Avenue, East Wenatchee with pastor John Sterk officiating.
