Roy Greene Sr.

Roy H. Greene Sr., 86, a resident of Wenatchee since 1949, died Monday, January 7, 2008, at Harborview Medical Center following a sudden illness. He was born December 9, 1921, to Lyle and Mary Greene in Spokane, WA, and attended schools in Oroville. Following graduation from Oroville High School, Roy married Lila J. Atchison and remained married until the time of her death in 1988.

Roy joined the U.S. Army during World War II and fought to liberate Italy. He was awarded the Bronze Star medal for courage under fire. Upon returning from Europe, Roy was employed as a firefighter for the Seattle Fire Department before moving to Wenatchee with his family. In Wenatchee, he worked for Fuller Paints for a time, then worked at Wenatchee Paint and Glass as a glazier until his retirement. Having a passion for work, he continued with US Pallet as the Special Projects Manager until his death. Roy enjoyed fishing, ball games and hunting when he was younger.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Greene of Omak, Jack Greene of Osoyoos, B.C., and Larry Greene of Brewster. Roy is survived by his sister, Helen Overmeyer of Burien; three children, son James Greene and Neda, son Roy Greene Jr. and Lori, and daughter Patty Baum and Pete; and by a longtime loving partner, Margo Greene. He has six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday, January 14, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Jones & Jones~Betts Funeral Home. Please make donations to the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society.
