Roy Martin McConnell

Roy Martin McConnell, 72 years old, passed away peacefully in his beloved home on Badger Mountain on February 24, 2008. He was surrounded by his wife and numerous family members at the time of his passing. Roy lost his short-lived battle with lung cancer. He was born April 27, 1935 in Le Roy, IL. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Airborne Division as a member of the honor guard. Following his service in the regular Army, he served in the Illinois National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve. Roy and his family moved from Illinois to Leavenworth, WA, in 1965.

He was employed by the municipality of Leavenworth and later owned a restaurant. Roy also lived in western Washington for a period prior to settling on Badger Mountain. He was a long haul truck driver for many years and spent the remaining years of his active employment as a logger.

Roy was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and his dogs. He was a great story teller and his tales will be remembered by all. Roy was a dedicated family man and will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and his first wife, Frankie. Roy is survived by his wife of the home, Marjorie; sons, Roy Jr. and Jack of Badger Mountain, and David of Ellensburg; daughters, Kathy Williams of Ketchikan, AK, Carol Weyrick of Reno, NV, and Jody (Steve) Pedersen of Duvall, WA; son, Jack (Teresa) McCarver of Wenatchee; and daughter, Carole (Chris) Shedd of Waterville. He leaves 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A very special thank you for all of the compassionate care givers who provided assistance through hospice.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 28, 2008, at Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be given to the American Cancer Society.
